St Sava Cathedral Frescos
The Fresco Project was started by The Very Reverend Father Zivojin Jakoljevic in 2008. Over the course of two years he worked to identify an iconographer that could write the frescos for our Cathedral. His search led him to the School of Iconography and Preservation that is attached to the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade. Under the leadership and guidance of Father Zivojin, the Fresco Project commenced the commissioning of frescos for our Cathedral. Due to the size of the Cathedral space, it was decided that he Fresco Project would be split into three phases.
Anyone interested in making a general donation to the fresco fund may see a vestryman before or after Divine Liturgy.
Thank you to all who have donated to the fresco project and have helped to make this addition to our Cathedral. May God grant you many happy years!
Phase 1
The first phase of the fresco project was completed in August of 2011. Frescos were installed on the East Altar wall of the Cathedral.
Phase 2
The second phase of the fresco project will be completed by the fall of 2013 and will be installed on the North and South walls of the Cathedral.
Phase 3
The third phase of the fresco project is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2014. Frescos in this phase will be installed on the Cathedral ceiling, choir loft, West wall, and vestibule.
